PR After Hours: Late nights spent with PRSSA

By Director of PR, Brittany Jones

It's a late-night and students are finally unwinding from their busy day. They might choose to spend their night scrolling through social media or getting in a few more hours of studying. Some might even choose to log into Instagram and spend their evening with PRSSA.

For communication students, social interaction could be considered key within the industry. Attending networking events and going out for coffee with others in the field present opportunities to grow and learn.

However, due to COVID-19, such experiences are limited or hard to come by. Because of these limitations, PRSSA decided to try something new this semester by giving students and professionals a chance to connect through a digital platform.

On Tuesday, September 15, PRSSA had their first “PR After Hours” session which was hosted by President Rocio Hernandez and Vice President Ryan Jackson. The session lasted approximately 30 minutes and took place on Instagram live. Students and alumni were given a chance to ask questions and learn more about the organization.

Vice President Jackson was joined by Ingrid Quiroz on September 22. Quiroz answered questions about her career in PR and gave insight into the industry.

“PR After Hours” will continue for the remainder of the semester with a relaxed atmosphere and opportunities for students to network with professionals. The sessions are meant to ease some of the “zoom fatigue” students might be experiencing and create chances for students to make friends within the industry.

The sessions will take place weekly on Tuesdays starting at 8 p.m. Be sure to tune in on Instagram and have a good time!
